Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ Top

Where am I? Who are you? What's going on!?

Don't panic. You're on my website. I'm one of those music-making people. All is explained further on the About page.

What do you use to make your music?

  • DAW: Reason

  • Audio editor: Audacity

  • Plugins, sample packs and soundfonts: Big Fish Audio Celtic Instruments, Ochen K Chip64, Pinknoise Studio Pro Vitamin, Propellerhead PX7, several Spitfire Audio plugins, Sonic Reality Ethnic Instruments, and many, many more

  • Hardware: Propellerhead Balance audio interface, Nektar Impact LX61+ controller keyboard, Roland GAIA SH-01 synth, and a rather clunky old AMD-based custom-built PC that I should really think about upgrading soon

Do you take commissions?

I do! If you need custom-composed music and/or sound effects for your project, get in touch!

How much do you charge for commissions?

My rates are based on a few different factors. If you'd like a quote, again, get in touch and tell me a bit about your project!

My project has no funding. Will you work for free? I can pay you in royalties.

Sorry. I have a policy of not working for royalties or exposure. I will need to take at least partial payment before I start working on your project's audio. I will, however, contribute to free community projects sometimes.

Can you teach me how to make music?

While I don't mind offering advice, you're probably much better off looking for that sort of help on YouTube. There's a lot of good guidance on there, whether you're just starting out or you have a lot of experience already. There are also lots of forums, subreddits, Discord groups, and other communities for people learning the craft. However you choose to tackle it, good luck and have fun!

Track Formats

Track Formats

The tracks distributed on this site, even those labelled "single tracks," actually come as zip archives containing a variety of file formats, track lengths, looping options et cetera. So, when you download a "single track" and find a 40MB zip file downloading, don't be alarmed. This is normal. Here's a run-down of the various formats you'll have to choose from:

Full Track

The whole track - intro, main body, maybe an extra loop, ending. A better fit for non-looping playback and suitable for listening. Ogg Vorbis version includes loop comments, so in RPG Maker and any other engine made compatible, will play intro once and then loop seamlessly.

Single Loop

Designed to loop as seamlessly as possible in any environment, with no intro or ending. Minimal length and thus file size, but will probably end too abruptly for non-looping playback.

Intro-Loop

Ogg Vorbis only. Like full track, will play the intro once and then loop seamlessly in any engine made compatible with LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH comments, such as RPG Maker, but only includes one loop and no ending, to save on file size. My recommended format for game engines, if the loop comments are supported. Will probably end too abruptly for non-looping playback or listening.
